Freelance Writing Jobs

Today, the need for freelancing writing is on the increase. Consider the thousands of blogs and websites that are created on a daily basis. Some bloggers are interested in blogging but are too busy with their regular jobs that they don't have the time to regularly update their blogs. These part-time bloggers do source out their blogging jobs to people who have good writing skills. The same goes for some websites that need guest writers to do some writing for them. Definitely, this is not for free.

Who is a Freelance Writer?

The word, freelance, means "earning money by selling your works or services to several different organizations rather than being employed by one particular organization", according to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary. Therefore, as a freelance writer, you can write for as many as possible organizations
that need your services without being committed to work for them from 8 a.m to 4 p.m as it is with with regular office work.

Requirements to be a Freelance writer

To be a successful freelance writer, you must have the following skills and tools:
1. You must have a very good command of written English. This means you must know the rules and syntax of written English. No client will want to patronize a writer who doesn't know the difference between "written"and "writing". This is equally important as some of the jobs you will handle as a freelance writer will come from other countries. So, if you want to make money from freelance writing, master the art of writing, improve your knowledge of English Language.
2. Speed: Speed is equally important. Some clients will give you jobs with very small deadline. If you can't meet up, the next job will be given to other writers who are as fast as private jets. Just last week, I got a writing job through freelancer.com. I was expected to submit the job by 7 a.m the following day. Not bad really. But the bad aspect of it is that I got the job alert around 5 p.m. and I had to write 2 different articles of about 700 words each. I submitted the 2 articles 2 hours later. The response from my client: "Thank you very much. The quality is very good. I am surprised at your speed. Thanks". This message is in my Facebook inbox. The secret? Speed. How did I achieve that speed of execution? I am a fast typist with average typing speed of 45 words/minute. As a fast typist, I type without looking at the keyboard! It is an art. Learn it.
3. A computer system: This could be a laptop or a desktop. You MUST have a system to handle the typing job. If you don't have a system, go and borrow or steal one(don't call me if you are caught stealing ooo). What I am trying to say in essence is that a computer system is a necessity for freelance writing, not a luxury.
4. Electricity: Get this at all costs too. PHCN may play some funny games, go and get a generating set. You can start with "i better pass my neighbour". With time, you upgrade as the money starts flowing in.
5. You need a good knowledge of the internet to get jobs and send the completed jobs to your clients. Learn this if you don't know how to browse effectively now.
6. Register with a good freelance company. I am registered with www.freelancer.com. You can register with it or any other websites of your choice.

Why waiting? Good your writing skills to the use to make your money. If you can't work in a newspaper company, you can freelance.
