Job Opportunity in Technology - Setting up a Computer School

With hundreds of millions of computers in the world, there is hardly a home now without a computer system in any form. It could be a desktop, a laptop, a palmtop or different models of computers. With this daily increase in accessibility to a system, there is an ever-growing demand for people to be computer literate.
Formerly, a literate person was seen as a person who can read and write. Nowadays, literacy is no longer the ability to read and write only, but includes the ability to operate a computer system. So if you are not
computer literate, you still have a long way to go.
Computer has now enjoyed so much patronage due to its wide areas of application that people are now more determined than ever before to become computer literate. Talk about CBT(Computer-Based Test), for students who are seeking admission into tertiary institution, to online registration, computer is the key. Gone are those days when job seekers will have to queue on end to get application forms. Today, all you have to do is just get the right scratch card and log on to the website of the company where you want to apply and submit a duly-filled application form without leaving the comfort of your house.
Due to this increased demand, setting up a computer training center is a good way to make ends meet.

Requirements for setting up a Computer School

There are some basic requirements for setting up a good computer school which is discussed below:
  1. A good location: To set up a good school, you must consider the location. What class(es) of people are predominantly residing in my area? If people in your area are predominantly students and/or civil servants, setting up a computer school will be a good idea. But suppose they are predominantly farmers or market women, get a better location. A school environment is always the best as students, irrespective of their course of study, will want to be computer literate.
  2. A good capital: Setting up a computer school is not a piece of cake. You will need a minimum of 6 computer systems to start with. You equally need to make provision for regular power supply in terms of generator (not I better pass my neighbour o). For a standard school, internet connection is a necessity to teach internet-related courses. So, get a full list of what you need and calculate what that will cost you. Don't forget to have some cash on hand to take care of your staff before you start making enough money to take care of that from your income. I would have given a break down of what it will cost to set up a good computer school, but the rate of inflation and the unstable economy of the world will render that useless.
  3. Space: You may have to rent a space, perhaps a flat to run your school. The place should be very neat and decent. Nobody will want to patronize you if your environment is not ideal for learning. A well-packaged computer school will definitely attract students, resulting to good income.
  4. Update your knowledge: When I attended computer school in 2001, I was taught with Windows 98. The version of Office we used then is quite different from what we have now. Laptops were exclusive property of the rich, so we have to make do with desktops. But today, how many people make use of desktop computers? What do you think will happen to somebody who learnt how to repair desktop computers back then but has not updated his knowledge to include how to repair laptops? How much do you think he will be making as income?  Back then, there was nothing like blogging in Nigeria. It was a foreign concept. So, always check what is new in the computer world and learn it at all costs.
  5.  Get affiliated to a reputable higher institution: This will make your services to be well recognized and respected by people. Since people are likely to recognize those reputable organizations, your services will equally be recognized and appreciated.
